This template is designed for use with all Hungarian nouns. It should be used immediately following the ===Noun=== header, and provides the inflection line, showing the singular and plural forms of the nominative noun.
{{{1}}} = plural suffix. If the noun has no plural form, this parameter should be set to “-”.
Regular nouns
szerkesztésFor regular nouns, this template takes one parameter. The template calls the PAGENAME for the singular form and uses this as the base for the plural form.
- Examples:
- asztalterítő (‘tablecloth'; adds -k to form plural)
- {{hu-noun|k}}
- asztalterítő (plural asztalterítők)
- {{hu-noun|k}}
- hónap (‘month’; adds -ok to form plural)
- {{hu-noun|ok}}
- hónap (plural hónapok)
- {{hu-noun|ok}}
- nyelv (‘tongue, language'; adds -ek to form plural)
- {{hu-noun|ek}}
- nyelv (plural nyelvek)
- {{hu-noun|ek}}
- tök (‘pumpkin, squash’; adds -ök to form plural)
- {{hu-noun|ök}}
- tök (plural tökök)
- {{hu-noun|ök}}
- asztalterítő (‘tablecloth'; adds -k to form plural)
In cases where there is a vowel shift in the suffix, the shifted suffix is simply used.
- Examples:
Irregular nouns
szerkesztésFor irregular nouns, where the stem drops a vowel to form the plural, the plural form must be given in full using the pl= option.
- Examples:
Nouns lacking a plural form
szerkesztésFor nouns without plural forms, use 1=-.
- Example:
- angol (‘the English language’)
- {{hu-noun|-}}
- angol (uncountable)
- {{hu-noun|-}}
- angol (‘the English language’)
Nouns which are both countable and uncountable
szerkesztésSome nouns have no plural for one sense, but do have one for another sense. For these, use 1=- and use the second parameter to give the plural ending, or the pl= parameter if it is irregular.
- Example:
- portugál (‘the Portuguese language’ or ‘a Portuguese person’)
- {{hu-noun|-|ok}}
- portugál (countable and uncountable, plural portugálok)
- {{hu-noun|-|ok}}
- portugál (‘the Portuguese language’ or ‘a Portuguese person’)
Nouns with two plural forms
szerkesztésSome nouns have two plurals: with and without stem change. In these cases the second plural is provided by alt= and then the second plural (short for alternative). Such nouns are collected in Category:Hungarian nouns with multiple plural forms
